Talman Single Family Residence

The house at 2444 North Talman tests the economics of new construction for the first-time homeowner equating economy with size, simplicity and material selection to make the largest possible living spaces within the smallest possible frame. The original footprint of 20 feet by 30 feet, built in 1991, occupies less than twenty percent of the standard Chicago lot allowing for a large private garden. An addition to the house, in 2003, added two bedrooms and a bath vertically to the rear of the house maintaining the large garden area. The use of natural light and color emphasize the volumetric composition creating a sense of spaciousness in a relatively small house..
